On 24 July 2025, the University of Stuttgart, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), InnovationsCampus Mobility of the Future (ICM), and Korea University Sejong Campus signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Stuttgart. The agreement strengthens international collaboration in key areas such as cybersecurity, autonomous systems, and digital, sustainable urban infrastructure.
While the political delegation remained in Stuttgart, a three-member delegation from Korea University Sejong Campus visited KIT in Karlsruhe on 25 July. The university was represented by:
During the tour of KIT’s East Campus, several innovative research projects were highlighted, most notably the regioKArgoTramTrain project. This pilot project demonstrates how existing tram and urban rail infrastructure can be used for the combined transport of passengers and goods. Integration into urban traffic contributes to making city logistics more sustainable, efficient, and low-emission. Additionally, a newly developed electric bicycle trailer was presented, showcasing flexible and climate-friendly solutions for urban mobility.
The Memorandum of Understanding envisions joint research projects, workshops, and exchange programs for students and researchers. The goal is to network knowledge internationally, develop new technology platforms, and create innovative solutions for the mobility of the future.
Through the regioKArgoTramTrain project and other initiatives, KIT is providing tangible impulses for sustainable mobility concepts – while benefiting from a new partnership with South Korea that strengthens research, innovation, and the development of young talent.
