regioKArgoTramTrain at the IHK Transport Committee: Experiencing the Future of Parcel Delivery

On June 24, 2026, the regioKArgoTramTrain project was invited to present its work to the IHK Transport Committee. The event provided committee members with exciting insights into innovative concepts for sustainable parcel delivery in the future.

At the beginning of the event, Dr.-Ing. Christoph Rentschler, project manager of regioKArgoTramTrain, introduced the project and its current developments. He explained how the combination of rail-based transport and automated last-mile delivery can contribute to making urban logistics more efficient and environmentally friendly. During the presentation, participants had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the project’s challenges and opportunities with the project team.

The future of logistics then became tangible for the attendees. Waldemar Titov from Furtwangen University presented a specially developed virtual reality simulation. Using VR headsets, participants were able to immerse themselves in a possible future scenario and experience firsthand how parcels could be transported by rail and then delivered to customers by autonomous delivery robots. The interactive simulation enabled guests to explore and test this innovative delivery process in a realistic environment.

Another important part of the event was the accompanying acceptance research. Laura Canon from Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA) was present to collect participants’ opinions, impressions, and feedback. The insights gathered provide valuable input for the further development of the project and help ensure that future logistics solutions are designed with users’ needs and expectations in mind.

The event provided an excellent platform for exchange between research, industry, and practice, demonstrating how innovative technologies can contribute to making parcel delivery more sustainable and efficient in the future.
